Interstudent

In Poland there are more than 16 thousand international students who study for Bachelor, Master or PhD degree. They influence student life a lot. There are about 10 thousand of Erasmus students and the ones from other exchange programs. That is why, Perspektywy Education Foundation together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education organized InterSTUDENT competition for the best international students in Poland.

The first winners in the InterSTUDENT 2009 competition are:

Errol Muzawazi from Zimbabwe, student of Law Faculty at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
Siarhei Samuseu from Bialorus, student of International Business Economics at the Lazarski School of Commerce and Law in Warsaw.
Agnieszka Maceikianec from Lithuania, student of sociology department at the University of Warsaw.
Katarzyna Siuda from Canada, PhD student at the Medical University of Poznan.

Vice-minister of science in higher education Grazyna Prawelska-Skrzypek greeted the winners and encouraged more international students to come to Poland:
- Year by year we have more international students in Poland. Polish universities have a lot to offer, for example, they have courses in English as well as in Polish. I want to congratulate students who decided to come to us and to thank them for their effort. Hope, we will develop new common programs of studies. In today’s society, open to multinational culture, we have no other way.

The responsibility of the choice of winners was on the Committee shoulders. The Nominating Committee consisted of the representatives of the Perspektywy Education Foundation, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Students’ Parliament and National Organization of PhD Students.

- No doubt, the first edition of the competition is quite symbolic, as it makes us understand that international students are an internal part in the Polish academic community, - said Waldemar Siwinski, Chairman of the Nominating Committee. – That is why I am very glad that we give our awards during the Students’ Community Annual Awards Ceremony ProStudent 2009; it underlines the fact that international students are very important in current reality, and that they influence student life in Poland. There are close to 3 million international students in the world today. In Poland we have more than 16 thousand international students who study for Bachelor, Master or PhD degree. The number is not impressive, but year after year more students come to our country. This fact helps our society to become more and more multicultural and interesting. In addition, Polish students have an opportunity to get acquainted with other cultures and understand the world in its global dimension.

The Nominating Committee consisted of Waldemar Siwinski - president of Perpektywy Education Foundation, chairman of the Committee, Jan Sadlak – vice-rector for international cooperation at Warsaw School of Social Studies and Humanities, Margulan Baimukhan – Minister-Counselor of Kazakhstan Ambassy in Poland, Bartlomiej Banaszak - president of Students’ Parliament of RP, Piotr Koza - president of National organization of PhD students.

InterSTUDENT Competition was sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as a part of „Organization and complemention of activities for the students’ community” program.
