„Studies in Central and Eastern Europe: Histories, Cultures and Societies” is a new course at Jagiellonian University which is address to young people interested in history and culture of Central and Eastern Europe. The goal of the field is to educate specialist in history, anthropology, ethnology and political science of the region, who will get their education in the English language. The studies provide not only theoretical knowledge, but also basic abilities that will enable the students to analyse local phenomena in the past as well as in present time.
The programme includes classes concerning history, anthropology, ethnology and political sciences of Central and Eastern Europe with a special emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries. It encompasses classes on important substantive issues as well as classes aimed at perfecting the research technique. The alumni should be able to solve straightforward professional issues, gather, process and convey information as well as take part in teamwork. They should master the foreign language at B2 level of The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and be able to use the technical language necessary for the profession.


Studies are completely free for both Polish and non-Polish nationals. Non-Polish nationals have opportunity to get financial support in amount 1500 PLN/month

education requirements

Persons eligible to apply for the programme are the holders of a maturity certificate or another document equivalent to Polish maturity certificate. An additional formal and only material requirement is passing an interview verifying English-language skills and knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe history. List of qualified will be created on the basis of interview’s results.
