Doctoral students at the JU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science are required to:
• participate in a lecture (60 hrs per year) and classes (60 hours per year), carried out in English, in advanced quantum physics in the first or second year for two semesters (applicable to doctoral students in physics). To receive a credit for the lecture students must pass an examination which they should take no later than by the end of the second year of study.
• Participate in a doctoral seminar (at least 30 hrs per year) throughout the four years of study. The most suitable type of the seminar (or seminars) is selected by the head of the doctoral study programme upon consultation with the doctoral student’s advisor. The seminar number-grade credit is awarded by the professor supervising the seminar at the end of each academic year.
• Participate in an English language class (60 hrs per year) in the first year (a number-grade credit is given at the end of each academic year.)
• Participate in the Kraków Seminar in Physics (interdisciplinary seminars organized by the Polish Physics Society)
• Conduct classes for the period of three years (90 hrs per year in the case of a scholarship-holding student or 30 hrs per year in the case of other students). Scholarship-holding doctoral students should conduct no more than 15 hrs of classes in the fourth year.
Prior to the defense of the doctoral thesis the student should:
• Pass an examination in the English language
• Pass an examination in an additional subject: philosophy or economics
• Pass an examination in physics
The student should formally declare his/her intent to receive a doctoral title no later than at the end of the third year.
